Hutton Moor Leisure Centre, Weston-super-Mare
Acting as Principle Contractor, Oldland Electrical Services have been engaged by Parkwood Project Management Ltd to carry out numerous MEP/Builders Works Phases of work at Hutton Moor Leisure Centre, in Weston-Super-Mare.
Phase 1 comprised the careful and strategic removal of end-of-life existing Air Handling Equipment. Including essential ductwork modifications and subsequent specialist cleaning, upgrading of electrical LV Switchgear systems, with wiring and BMS controls updates ready to accept the new replacement Air Handling Equipment. To facilitate these works bespoke scaffolding arrangements with structural loading bays, removal and reinstatement of external cladding systems for access, with specialist lift and shift mechanical handling operations. In addition a new potable 10,000L GRP cold water storage tank, booster sets, and new replacement DHW Generators for wet-side activities with a total capacity of 3,000L of hot water.
Temporary DHW plant and equipment was provided to ensure minimal down-time during the change-over of DHW equipment. All working activities were carefully screened from the public view for added safety and security, using ‘Plasloc’ re-usable environmentally friendly wall systems, providing physical and visible protection from the environmental conditions presented by the swimming pool. Works were carefully planned throughout to minimise inconvenience to client operations and to avoid costly pool closures. Close collaboration with the client teams, stringent health and safety compliance, and flexibility of working hours ensured the successful completion and smooth handover during the summer of 2025.
Phase 2 comprises replacing the existing dry and wet-side fossil fuel boilers, with new technology ‘Clivet’ commercial Air Source Heat Pump solutions totalling 1,500kW of new energy efficient heat source. In conjunction there will be a new site HV infrastructure upgrade, and new LV electrical switchgear provided within external GRP housings. A significant builders-work package was incorporated to provide structural plant bases and groundworks, site trenching and protection/avoidance of existing services. These are all essential works forming part of North Somerset Council’s overall de-carbonisation strategy. Works are in progress during summer 2025 and are due for handover winter 2026.
